The most essential element of exterior renderings is the mood that influences how the project is presented. Lighting for 3D rendering is the most important factor for creating an ambiance and evoking emotions in viewers. That’s why Architects should indicate in the brief whether they want the sky cloudless or overcast. If the idea is to demonstrate their work in detail, bright sunlight works better, while for showcasing artificial backlight the night option is a must.
Moreover, it makes sense to send a perfect reference image for the mood/style you want to achieve. Images that show one’s preferences for lighting and style are also very important in professional 3D rendering projects. Those references help 3D artists understand what mood and atmosphere their client wants to have in the visuals.
Here we can show a perfect example of how reference images have a huge impact on the final look of the 3d renderings.
This is the model of the project:

We are doing a night view. Below is the reference image the client sent us. It’s one of the works on our portfolio. It’s the very image that the client likes the most and made him want to give us a try.

Below is the first look of the rendering. We replicated the style pretty accurately, the foggy weather, the lighting, the colors, etc.

However, it turned out that the client did not like it. After the communication, I realized the issue was that we misunderstood the reference image. The client then sent us the correct reference image.

We reworked the image based on the new reference and other comments. The final result is as follows:

The client was very satisfied with the result. How do you like it? Does it also look much better to you?
Besides the night view, we did two more daytime views. We’d love to share them too.
